Chris Kokkinos is the lead audio engineer at Rooster teeth Animation based in Austin. He works on multiple Roosterteeth online shows like Gen:lock, RWBY and Red vs Blue. As asound design working in the new frontier of online media Amazed with his work, asked if could have a short interview with me. Even with him being as busy as he is, he agreed to a email interview.

Q:What circumstances or events led you to be composer/designer? .

Chris Kokkinos: Video games and film collectively influenced my interest in sound design.

Q:What kind of skills are required for composing/design?

Chris Kokkinos: Attention to detail, critical listening, and the ability to think of something in an abstract manner.

Q:How competitive is the sound design industry?

Chris Kokkinos: Highly competitive but also collaborative. It's uncommon for production companies (games, film) to have in-house audio talent. And those teams are typically pretty small (~5 or so people). This industry is hugely collaborative, though. Most professionals will be willing to help in any way they can when it comes to sharing tips, tools, and the like.

Q:How is the sound design industry current going. Any new techniques styles etc.

Chris Kokkinos: Online media is pretty much 'the wild west' when it comes to audio. My team, however, is actively trying to adhere to broadcast standards for all of our content, in hopes that the web will someday follow the same protocols as TV.
